I admit I was a bit sceptical about this tip of how to keep strawberries from growing mold.

Help prevent moldy berries: Submerge strawberries in hot (125 degree) water for 30 seconds, then drain, dry and chill.
As a control, I grabbed a handful of berries and stuck them in a basket on the counter out of the sun for three days. I then took a handful of berries and dunked them in hot water (I just used tap water), dried them and put them in the fridge for three days. Yep, the berries on the counter started molding on day two. The berries that had been dunked in the water are still fine after day four. Of course I realized later that I needed another control sample...a handful of berries that had just been put in the fridge. But at least the ones that had been dipped in hot water weren't tossed in the garbage on day two!
Very interesting! I will have to remember this tip.
