FLOATS - Today is NATIONAL ROOT BEER FLOAT DAY and though I'm not a fan, something cold and creamy with a bit of fizz does sound pretty good right now. WikiHow gives you directions on how to make a root beer float here. I like the tip of dipping your glass in water and putting it into the freezer for 15
minutes so that you get that classic frosty
mug. And then there's the Root Beer Float Cake that is making it's rounds on the Blogiverse. I've had Joy The Bakers recipe bookmarked since she posted it last May. You can find it here.
BOURDAIN GETS DISEMBOWELED - I cracked up when I read Anthony Bourdain's blog post about his meeting Sandra Lee at a Julie/Julia movie premiere. To read more about it go here (it's the second part of the post). When I read it thought's of Stephen King's writings came to mind.
NEXT IRON CHEF - I really like Michael Symon on Iron Chef America. I enjoyed watching The Next Iron Chef show and thought Symon was a good winner, though I was rooting for John Besh. When I saw there was going to be a search for a new Iron Chef I didn't get all that excited. I'll watch the show cuz I'm a sucker for any of those cooking contest shows, but briefly looking at the contestants nobody really stood out. Until I realized Nate Appleman was going to be trying out. YES-IT! Seriously, I've had a mini crush on the guy ever since I met him at the Great American Food and Music Festival. The new season starts October 4th. Go Nate!
i just love bourdain. he makes me laugh and his adventures are always interesting—thanks for the link! something i don’t love is the root beer float, but have you had a ginger ale float? that’s something I really, really enjoy—give it a try!

That Bourdain blog post was a riot. By the way, he's always skewering her -- and rightly so -- for her infamous Kwanzaa cake fiasco. It's must-see TV: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=we2iWTJqo98

Carolyn Jung - Sandra is crazy but I actually love her tablescapes!
Chef Barbie - Nate is more than adorable (grin).
Louise - Hey, food holidays are a great way to figure out what to cook/eat every day.

I love root beer floats. Even when I was a young girl. Loved to go to A&W for the floats. Another one I like is 7up floats.
