DEEP FRIED HOT DOGS - True, these are things that might cross your path only if you're really hungover and looking for some cheap eats, but still....deep fried hot dogs? Works for me. Of course I'd want to dip them in something gooey...guac...mayo/mustard mix. I'm thinking these would be good with bacon wrapped around the dog before you deep fry them...but then maybe that's only me. Locally here in the San Jose area you can get these deep fried dogs at Iguana's. Home of the Burritozilla. I think these cost like, a buck. Tasty.
GO JOEY! - And speaking of Joey Chestnut, a belated congratulations to him for winning this years Nathan's Famous Hot Dogs and Buns eating contest. He ate 68 in ten minutes. Now I know it takes me about two seconds to polish off a couple of corn dogs from Wienerschnitzel, but 68 dogs in their buns in ten minutes? I hope these guys have an unlimited supply of Tums handy.
HOT DOG HIDEAWAY - This has been making it's way around all the food blogs. I still have no idea what to make of it. I realize the Archie McFee company has some strange items for sale, but this is pretty weird. It's a build it yourself "Meat House Kit". The kit comes with over ten pounds of cured deli slices and kosher dogs to make your "McMansion of Meat". I just want to know who sits around thinking these things up? Oh by the way, the cost is $79.95 and your masterpiece will only last for three weeks without refrigeration. Um, you'd leave this out for three weeks and then eat it? The mind boggles. For more info go here.
HOT DOG CITY - Did you know there was a Hot Dog and Sausage Council? They conduct scientific research to benefit hot dog and sausage manufacturers. They also have a website where you can find hot dog and sausage statistics (New York was the top hot dog consuming city last year), recipes (Cheesy Pigs in a Blanket sounds good) and see videos of movies and tv shows that have folks eating dogs or sausages (my favorite clip is the Grey's Anatomy hot dog eating contest). For more information go here (note, some areas require free registration).
HOT DIGGITY DOG - So why all the focus on hot dogs today? Because July is National Hot Dog Month and some folks say the third Wednesday in July is Hot Dog Day. So throw a couple of wieners on the grill and have a dog day!

HA! Hot dogs are so good no matter when. We're never too old for hot dogs. We're tempted to try corn dogs next.

i have about one hot dog per year, i guess i should make it in July. what would i do without your food calendar to remind me to have treats??? LOL... i wish i could try a deep fried one, that actually sounds interesting, but i don't know any restaurants around here that serve it. WEIRD huh? you'd think that would be all over the south. there is a local restaurant that serves "hot dogs provencale" though -- no joke!! garlic, bacon, the whole pit. i'd love to know what redneck chef came up with THAT ;)
