MILK CHOCOLATE - Back in the day, before there were so many wonderful artisan chocolate bars available, back when the only "premium" chocolate you could get were bars of Lindt or Valrhona at gourmet grocery stores (where the price was outrageous), one ate a Hershey's Milk Chocolate Bar if one was craving chocolate. Creamy, with or without almonds, a bar of Hershey's was luxury. Decadence. Oh there were those kisses, those crackle bars and other forms of chocolate around, but a solid bar of Hershey's Milk Chocolate? That was living. That was special. Though I find I reach for other premium chocolate these days and more often than not dark chocolate, biting into a Hershey's Milk Chocolate Bar brings me back to my childhood. Sigh. Creamy, dreamy. Yum.
NOT IN MY MOUTH - Okay, so, milk (or cream) goes in milk chocolate. And okay, I guess there is chocolate made with goats milk. But chocolate made with camels milk? Yep. A group which aims to make milk chocolate made with camels milk the "Godiva of the Middle East" is set to distribute the stuff soon. Since camels milk contains "five times more vitamin C, less fat, less lactose and more insulin" than cow's milk it's supposed to be a healthier alternative. I'm game. But still. Camel's Milk Chocolate? Why do I have pictures of old ladies smoking Camel cigarettes eating the stuff? For more info go here.
A NEW CUPCAKE - According to the Food Gal a new cupcake place has opened in San Jose. Love's Cupcakes, which is downtown on San Fernando Street (between 2nd and 3rd) opened July 25th. They are even offering a 'buy 2 get one free' coupon for the month of August here. I didn't see any milk chocolate cupcakes on their current menu, but there is a milk chocolate flavor of their Cupcake Truffles and their Cupcakes on a Stick. Sugar Free cupcakes are set to make their debut in November. For more information about Love's Cupcakes go here. Cupcakes would make a nice treat before a hockey game don't you think?
HAVE SOME CHOCOLATE - And yes, all this talk about milk chocolate brings us to the fact that today is NATIONAL MILK CHOCOLATE DAY. Perfect excuse to go indulge in your favorite milk chocolate treat. There's milk chocolate ice cream, milk chocolate candy bars, milk chocolate bath bombs.....
