I want to see Jeremy Roenick lift the Stanley Cup in a Sharks jersey.
Okay. There. I said it. It's out in the open. If you had told me ten years or even two years ago that I would be a Jeremy Roenick fan I would have laughed in your face. And if I had admitted it out loud, most of my hockey friends would have driven over me with a Zamboni. But he came. He played. And he won my heart.
I, like most, was a bit skeptical when the Sharks signed Roenick. Why him? The old, slow, has-been. What can he do for the Sharks? Just how much can he contribute? Nobody else wanted him, why do we?
Yes, he has a past. His personal life and his hockey life haven't been, shall we say, the cleanest. But I don't care. You can teach an old dog new tricks and Roenick has proven there is life in the old boy yet. And yes, it's probably teal glasses that I currently see him through, but I have become a fan. I have enjoyed watching him play in a Sharks uniform. I have smiled at his joy when he scores. I've watched the (numerous) interviews he has had with local media, not being afraid to laugh at himself, to talk (and talk) about the Sharks and his hockey career, to always be available for that sound bite us fans are always looking for.
I have always wanted my Sharks to win The Cup. I have sat through losing seasons, I have traveled to foreign countries in support of the quest for The Cup. But this year...this year I want it a little more. For the veteran who came to play. 16 wins boys. For yourselves. For the fans. For me. But mostly, win this for one for Roenick. He deserves it. We all do.
Yeah. We're ready playoffs...here we come....

As someone who has met him several times he is a complete asshole on so many levels. Can't stand him and most days he needs to shut his mouth. I think your teal glasses are a little thick on that one. :)

I agree, I never thought I could possibly be a JR fan. But, here I am! I met him recently and must say he was nothing but kind and humble. He's in SJ for all the right reasons and he's given the team, organization and fans his everything. Now we just need to return the favor and get this man The Cup!

Watching Game 2 right now and hoping the outcome will be better than last nights game. Regardless of your opinion of Roenick the Sharks need to win the cup this year.....they deserve it!! Go Sharks!!
