RED ICE - My friend MATT came down from SF yesterday to watch the Sharks vs Penguins game with me at Sonoma Chicken Coop in Campbell. When we got there we asked the nice bartender if he could put the Sharks game on. When he finally located the correct channel, we all just kind of stood and stared. Not having sound and not knowing what had gone on previously, all we saw was a bunch (a big bunch) of deep red ice. Every single one of us thought the same thing...who did the Zamboni run over? Luckily it was just the Zamboni breaking down and dropping it's fluids on the ice but it did make for some interesting conversation for a bit.
FAN IN THE STANDS - In the old days, Dave Pollack was The Fan In The Stands guy at the San Jose Mercury News. These days he has upgraded to, what I find, is the best place to keep up on the San Jose Sharks. Dave has a blog where he posts team info...not the stats and stuff you find on most news updates but behind the scenes information as he travels with the team too. He'll give you his thoughts on arenas, quotes from players and coaches that don't make it into the print media, weather...all the little things that make the season just a bit more interesting. To check out Dave's blog go here.
IS THIS THE YEAR? - If you haven't seen the parody of the Is This The Year? NHL commercial you should. Go here.
CELEBRITY CURLING - Get ready for Rockstar Curling, a possible reality series to be shown on NBC. Did you know that Bruce Springsteen and Jon Bon Jovi were closet curlers? For more information go here.
CHOCOLATE HOCKEY PUCK - If you eat at the Campbell Sonoma Chicken Coop, give their Chocolate Hockey Puck dessert (also known as the Sharks Fan Special) a try. Not bad though they did overdo the puree a bit (it could have been our really nice bartender puring it on as he took great care of us for the three plus hours we were there). It's a puck shaped truffle cake with raspberry puree and teal-colored blue curacao cream and will cost you $6.50. MATT thinks it might only show up on the menu during hockey season.

Pens fan here. That was so very odd. How sad that the zamboni died. I felt bad for it. I was glad that they cleaned the ice up relatively quick though!

God how I wish they would go back to ESPN. I hate VS. I miss NHL-2-Night.

Laurie - It was very odd, though we've had some odd stuff happen at arenas for the Sharks this year (like the power outage on opening night).
Peabody-VS isn't the best, I too, miss ESPN, ESPN-2 and NHL-2-Night (go Barry, go Barry).
NotSoccerMom-Isn't that fun?
